hey hey! as promised i'm going to write a little (ok a lot...) about last night's
madonna show here in los angeles (a stop on her newly nicknamed (by moi)
sticky & lame tour) which took place
at dodger stadium (the first and last time i'll
ever go there) i left work early so i could make sure to leave plenty of time to get down there - i headed out the door at 6pm - by 8:30 we were still two miles from the venue because of the
horrendous traffic - i was commiserating with other drivers along the way - we were crawling like snails - everyone was so
annoyed (normally that 2.5 hour trek would have taken like 15 minutes w/o traffic) by then i had to pee so bad and started to worry about missing the beginning of the show (which was supposed to start at 7:30) so we parked the car - hopped out and
walked the remaining two miles - needless to say that whole situation started to put me in a very bad mood! thankfully i was
finally able to pee - on the street (oh sweet relief) and luckily i was wearing comfortable shoes (lots of other people were doing the same thing - nobody wanted to miss a minute!)
then when we get there - it was all so overwhelming - so many entrances and people (i think the crowd was estimated to be 50,000) and i had to pick up the tickets at will call (we missed the supposed 'pre-party') and the ticket agents were complete idiots but finally we raced to our semi-decent field seats at about 9:15 (for the price i paid for those tickets - the most i've ever paid for a concert - they should have been way better seats - and would have been had she done it in a smaller venue like
staples center...) immediately i stood in the line for drinks - that line was moving SO damn slow - i started to realize the people working behind the counter didn't even know how to make drinks - it was pure insanity (they had little recipe lists written down on wet papertowels) then when i got up to the front after about 50 minutes - they ran out of water - i was like are you fucking kidding me?!? i grabbed my double whiskey sours and settled on sprite for the non-alcoholic drink - ugh! since the line took forever i missed her first song but after waiting all that time i certainly wasn't leaving - not even for madonna!
as far as the actual show was concerned - i was totally underwhelmed - and i couldn't help but compare it to her last
confessions tour which was
totally brilliant and definitely holds a place in my top shows of all-time but this show just wasn't up to par - i thought the costumes were tacky and the show lacked flow - last time it was like a huge dance party - this just wasn't anywhere near her last show! the best moments were during
she's not me &
miles away (two of my favorite tracks off her latest album
hard candy) and
like a prayer - one of her best songs ever! but then there was moments like when she sang
you must love me from
evita which sounded horrible & shrilly and a rock version of
borderline - oh give me a break - plus i'm so over
music - she needs to retire that song! i seriously should have opted to see this show in las vegas (two shows are taking place this weekend) she's not doing it in a baseball stadium there...
i think the venue last night was just the
worst and really killed the entire experience which i had been quite excited about since i needed something to lift my glum spirits but all it did was give me a serious headache (yet i did blow $70 bucks on a t-shirt and a souvenir program - of course i still love
madonna but not so much last night...) then once it was all over around midnight (as the jumbo screens flashed 'game over') we had to walk two miles back to the car - which was totally miserable but i was so tired by the time i got home i fell asleep right away! tonight i'm just chilling out - and tomorrow afternoon i'm going to see
spring awakening again but this time i manged to score a spot on the stage (they have seats on both sides of the action!) popbytes over & out for tonight...xoxo
PS oh my gosh - i almost forgot - two bonus highlights from last night for sure was seeing
britney spears (during
human nature) and
justin timberlake (during
4 minutes) up on stage with her!
