good morning! last week the very first single off whitney houston's highly-anticipated comeback album i look to you (releasing september 1st) leaked onto the web - now as much as i love ms. houston i'm finding myself in the middle of the road when it comes to her new song i didn't know my own strength (have listen below) it's fairly decent but i was expecting something really splashy ... rather than a 'i was fucked up but now i'm better' ballad! although she sounds great - something is missing - her vocals are not what they used to be but i guess that's to be expected after all the damage she did to her voice - thank heavens she's finally left all that drama - and bobby brown behind - oh hell to the yes! i'm hoping there will be some hot remixes of this song made available - i do think it could make a great dance track! popbytes over & out for now ... xoxo

good morning! after listening to michael jackson non-stop since his untimely death this past thursday - i simply had to post this incredible megamix i came across featuring sixteen of his best tracks all mixed into one amazing medley! the past few days have been beyond surreal - i certainly never thought mr. jackson's passing would affect me as much as it has - i've been really sad & reflective over the past few days but on the other hand listening to all his music and watching his videos has definitely put a smile on my face - he'd totally want us to celebrate - rather than mourn! i know he's in a better place right now - i can't thank him enough for all that he left us - my gosh - his musical legacy is truly legendary! popbytes over & out for now ... xoxo

good morning! next week (june 30th) electronica hipster moby is releasing his 9th studio album wait for me which i've had the pleasure of listening to over the past few weeks (there's a quote below from moby talking about the album which in part was inspired by one of my kooky favorite directors david lynch - he also directed the video for the album's first single shot in the back of the head) the album is quite decent - a bit more on the chill side than his previous disco-esque dance album last night - slightly dark and very personal in tone - it's perfect music for lounging out on a lazy sunday afternoon (oh i miss the weekend already!) below is the newly released animated video (with drawings by moby himself) for the second single pale horses along with a fresh remix for your listening pleasure (the track features haunting vocals from moby's pal amelia zirin brown) plus you can download another remix over on rcrdlbl.com! popbytes over & out for now ... xoxo

"I started working on the album about a year ago, and the creative impetus behind the record was hearing a David Lynch speech at BAFTA, in the UK. David was talking about creativity, and to paraphrase, about how creativity in and of itself, and without market pressures, is fine and good. It seems as if too often an artists or musicians or writers creative output is judged by how well it accommodates the marketplace, and how much market share it commands and how much money it generates. In making this record I wanted to focus on making something that I loved, without really being concerned about how it might be received by the marketplace. As a result it's a quieter and more melodic and more mournful and more personal record than some of the records I've made in the past." - Moby
good morning! last week i was at the roxy to see patrick wolf (join him on myspace) an adorable english singer/songwriter - who just released his fourth album the bachelor - to be honest i really didn't know all that much about him - but apparently he has been steadily gathering a loyal following - he just won arjan writes' best international crossover award - and i can see why - he was incredible live and since then i've been listening to the (electro-charged - romantically tortured) album and i've been totally enjoying it (i love the spoken vocals actress tilda swintonadded to the mix) below is a remix (courtesy of alec empire) for patrick's kick-ass track hard times along with the recently released neon-filled video! (plus here's a bit of video i shot while at the roxy) for some reason he reminds me a drop of björk mixed with hints of robert smith and david bowie - mr. wolf is quite an interesting character - someone to definitely keep our eyes on! popbytes over & out for now ... xoxo
good morning! once i heard that jennifer love hewittwas thinking about getting back into the music scene - i was immediately reminded of my total guilty pleasure from 1999 - her song how do i deal - which was recorded for the i still know what you did last summer soundtrack - i can't even tell you how obsessed i was with this song back in the day (i had it on my rio mp3 player which only had 32mb of storage!) so now i'm finally featuring it here on popbytes - along with the music video! since i know everyone has guilty pleasures - i don't mind sharing mine at all! popbytes over & out for now
good morning y'all! last week jordin sparks (follow her on twitter) debuted her brand new single battlefield during a kick-ass guest performance on american idol (plus she looked super fabulous) since then i've been completely obsessed with the track - it's totally destined to be a summer '09 anthem & breakout smash hit (i do know a couple of other people feel the exact same way - hello to my pals cameron & alekos!) i've always genuinely liked ms. sparks (although i did vote for cutie blake lewis during the 6th season of idol) she has fared better than i initially thought she would - i adore her previous hits no air and one step at a time but this one totally blows those out of the water - i simply can't get enough of it! i wanted to wait until the video was released to post about battlefield here on popbytes but i love it so much - i said to myself 'screw it - just put it up now' have a listen below - then go buy it on itunes - the track is currently #10 on the singles chart - let's all help ms. jordin nab the top spot! popbytes over & out for now ... xoxo
good morning! i've been loving on lady gaga since like last year - so at this point i'm starting to get a wee bit tired of her - since they seem to play her hit tracks just dance and poker face all the time on the radio - yet queen latifah just dropped a couple of verses - rap style - on a new remix version of poker face - helping to breathe some new life into the track! (hat tip to pretty much amazing!) i'm beyond thrilled to hear queen rapping again - she picked a perfect track to drop some rhymes on to garner a little comeback buzz - she's got a new album in the works - done in the style for which she became famous for! popbytes over & out for now ... xoxo
good morning! i was quite surprised to discover this weekend (by way of my twitter pal jamie's blog music is my king size bed) that lily allen was actually releasing the track f*ck you as the third single off her latest album it's not me, it's you - now it's not that i don't love the track (which was written for our former foolish president george w. bush) but i didn't think she'd make it a single - i'm glad her label signed off on that one! i wonder if they'll make a censored version for the video? i came across this remix of the track with a bossa nova twist - it's quite nice - have a listen below - and right about now - i'd like to tell monday - f*ck you - for always coming so fast - ugh - i loathe the first day of the work week! popbytes over & out for now ... xoxo
good morning! i was recently introduced to american singer / songwriter maria taylor (who some of you may know already) by way of an adorably sweet & quirky track that has been stuck in my head called cartoons and forever plans which happens to feature backing vocals from one of my favorite male musicians - michael stipe (of REM) have a listen for yourself below plus i've posted the recently released video which only helps to add even more charm to the song! if you like what you hear - i suggest checking out ms. taylor's brand new album ladyluck which was just released on march 31st! popbytes over & out for now ... xoxo
good morning! oh i can't believe it's already monday - sadly the weekend went by in a flash and now it's back to the daily grind - lately i've been loving kelly clarkson's latest single i do not hook up - at this point i'm pretty sick of my life would suck without you - and i actually like this track better - below you'll find a hot remix of the song along with the recently leaked music video (featuring male model lee kholafai) popbytes over & out for now ... xoxo
