Remember that one time Barack Obama made a passing reference to Kim Kardashian and Kanye West? Because Kanye sure does! And he’s super pissed that Obama just keeps mentioning him, and gawd, it’s like really Obama? Why do you keep mentioning Kanye? Why can’t you just let it go, you know? At least, that’s how Kanye is framing it in yet another interview where he talks about how Obama keeps talking about him that ONE TIME! Via HuffPo…
“The reason why Obama mentioned our name is because we’re most relevant,” West told radio host Angie Martinez during a radio interview at New York hip-hop station Hot 97. “He just says that because he’s trying to be cool. Obama was supposed to be the coolest person on the planet, now he’s got to say our names to be cool. It’s like a feature. We featured in his interviews right now. They need a feature from us to get relevance.”
Ugh, I know. Who would be uncool enough to keep name dropping great creative minds and works of art in order to stay relevant? Well, hold onto that thought while we pull some more quotes from Us Weekly …
“My daughter is in a position of a level of royalty like the prince and princess in London,” the proud dad bragged, possibly alluding to Prince William, Kate Middleton, and their 4-month-old baby boy, Prince George.
“I wanted to take white trash T-shirts and make it into a video. I wanted it to look as phony as possible,” West told The Breakfast Club. “I wanted the clouds to go one direction, the mountains to go one direction, the horses to go over there…’cause I want to show you that this is The Hunger Games.”
“I’m like Marina Abramovic,” he continued, referring to the famed performance artist. “This is, like, performance art. The thing is, I don’t got a problem with looking stupid.”
“I’m standing up, and I’m telling you, ‘I am Warhol. I am the No. 1 most impactful artist of our generation. I am Shakespeare in the flesh,'” he said. “Walt Disney, Nike, Google — now, who’s gonna be the Medici family and stand up and let me create more? Or do you want to marginalize me ’til I’m out of my moment?”
Kanye’s right, only someone who fears losing relevancy would shamelessly name-drop others in order to create a tie between them. I mean really, why would someone keep harping on other, more creative visionaries unless deep down they were worried they were losing their touch and burning bridges, and would soon fall down into irrelevance and mediocrity? It’s just like, ugh, really Obama? Why you gotta be like that?
