Every year, after the holidays are over and the presents are unwrapped and we’re eating leftover turkey and stuffing sandwiches for an entire week, Forbes likes to release their list of Hollywood’s most overpaid actors. The concept is simple: You compare how much a star is paid versus how much they bring in and then math math math results. Anyway, it looks like Adam Sandler is topping the list for the second year in a row. I know, right? Who would have thought that taking a vacation and releasing it as a movie might not be a wise investment? The full list is below (the ratio, by the way, is box office earn : dollar amount) …
- Adam Sandler – $3.20 : $1.00
- Johnny Depp – $4.10 : $1.00
- Ben Stiller – $4.80 : $1.00
- Ryan Reynolds – $4.90 : $1.00
- Tom Hanks – $5.20 : $1.00
- Will Ferrell – $6.60 : $1.00
- Channing Tatum – $6.70 : $1.00
- Denzel Washington – $6.90 : $1.00
- Sandra Bullock – $9.00 to $1.00
- Ben Affleck – $9.37 to $1.00
A quick note here: As Forbes points out, the math goes a little wonky with Channing Tatum and Sandra Bullock. Apparently, they have really good agents who can score them a really good back-end deal, which is the reason why they end up here despite movies that do consistently well. But as for Sandler … well, that’s no surprise. The guy has basically become a professional hang-out man, taking his friends on vacations and filming the results for market. Which isn’t a bad gig if you can get it, but when that’s your method, you waive your right to pretend that your movies are any good.
