black dahlia to open venice film fest!

UPDATE watch the trailer

hey kids! so the new brian de palma film the black dahlia was picked to open & premiere at the upcoming venice film festival on aug 30th and will then be released theatrically here in the states on sept 15th! i certainly hope that mr. de palma can deliver a super cinema thriller like he has before…it does have a great cast featuring josh hartnett, scarlet johansson, and hilary swank

i’m really excited to see this film which is an adaptation of james ellroy‘s 1987 novel that was indeed inspired by the real-life murder of 22 yr-old elizabeth short who was found cut up in two pieces – badly bruised & beaten back in 1947 (her body was dumped not too far from my place) the culprit was never caught and ms. short quickly became associated with the nickname ‘black dahlia’ (thought to be first used by reporters to ‘sensationalize’ the girl’s murder) oh hollywood sure does have plenty of spooky & creepy crimes lingering in its past! popbytes over & out for tonight – xxoo!
