Esperanza Spalding vs. The Beliebers

Esperanza Spalding

In what can really only be described as the best news ever from last night (not including Arcade Fire‘s The Suburbs winning Album of the Year), Justin Bieber lost the Best New Artist Grammy to a generally unknown jazz singer named Esperanza Spalding. Yes, even her name is oddly poetic and beautiful. Anyway, Bieber’s fans took this the way only a group of obsessive, delusional teens loosely tethered to reality could: By posting death threats on her Wikipediapage.

Among the edits:

— “She now has the 2011 Grammy for being the Best new Artist! Even though no one has ever heard of her! Yay!”

— “JUSTIN BIEBER DESERVED IT GO DIE IN A HOLE. WHO THE HECK ARE YOU ANYWAY?”

Other edits changed her name to either “Justin” or “Quesadilla” or went so far as to write that “SHE IS A F—ING RETARD.” SOURCE

Oh, the joys of being young and sub-mental … man, doesn’t it suck when someone with actual talent beats out the auto-tuned dog-and-pony show that you have a weird, murderous obsession for? Let’s face it: Bieber was up against her, Drake, Florence + The Machine … Honestly, there was no way in hell he was ever going to win this one. Sorry Beliebers. Maybe next time back someone who can actually sing.
