hey y’all! so i just went to an advance screening of the new george clooney directed film good night, and good luck. (it just played at the venice film festival) based on the true story of cbs journalist/reporter edward r. murrow – and how he raised attention to the issue of senator joe mccarthy (only shown through actual archived footage – amazing) and his oh so wily ways and tactics to hunt out those darn ‘commies’ during the 1950’s – shot in black/white – the film was super stunning – and the acting was top notch – especially david strathairn who played murrow to a tee! oh and i loved patricia clarkson – and ray wise aka leland palmer on twin peaks (lordy did they smoke like chimneys back then – murrow would smoke while on the air!) plus the issues the film tackles are still very relevant today some 50 years later (patriot act anyone?) so please do yourself a favor and check out good night, and good luck. when it hits theaters october 7th! popbytes out for now – xxoo!

Synopsis
Good Night, And Good Luck. takes place during the early days of broadcast journalism in 1950’s America. It chronicles the real-life conflict between television newsman Edward R. Murrow and Senator Joseph McCarthy and the House Un-American Activities Committee. With a desire to report the facts and enlighten the public, Murrow, and his dedicated staff – headed by his producer Fred Friendly and Joe Wershba in the CBS newsroom – defy corporate and sponsorship pressures to examine the lies and scaremongering tactics perpetrated by McCarthy during his communist ‘witch-hunts’. A very public feud develops when the Senator responds by accusing the anchor of being a communist. In this climate of fear and reprisal, the CBS crew carries on and their tenacity will prove historic and monumental.
