Lady Gaga: Ready to check you in … AHS: Hotel

Lady Gaga / American Horror Story: Hotel

Lady Gaga / American Horror Story: Hotel

Normally, the theme, cast and all general details for the next installment of FX‘s American Horror Story are kept secret until late summer, so as to churn the fanbase into a frothy hotbed of speculation. Except this year they’ve decided to announce some (stunt) casting early, such as the fact that the fifth time around the title is Hotel and that Lady Gaga will be starring in it. You may now commence all your many wild thoughts, educated guesses and shots in the dark. EW reports …

EW can reveal the Grammy winner will be a series regular in the fifth edition of the popular thriller, which is expected to air this fall. This will mark Gaga’s first starring role in a major production as an actress.

What kind of character will Gaga play? Not yet known. What is the new season’s theme? Not yet known. The only confirmable news at this time is that Gaga is firmly in.

And just so you know this is all on the level, here’s a post from Gaga’s Twitter

So, thoughts? Based on series creators Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk‘s love of all things camp and classic glamour (aka Queen Jessica Lange–who most likely won’t be the leading lady this time), my best guess (in the moment) is that with Hotel they’re going for a Hollywood vibe–maybe set in the 70s or 80s–think Chateau Marmont–or it could be set in modern day … or even the future. I bet Gaga’s either going to play a fading star/socialite or perhaps an employee of the hotel (Gaga goes Norman Bates?). I’m guessing they’ll be shying away from real life horror in favor of more supernatural elements, and hopefully will help bridge and connect the gaps between the older eras of Asylum (#2) and Freak Show (#4) to the newer eras of Murder House (#1) and Coven (#3).
