And that time he basically said he doesn’t want his daughters watching Keeping Up With The Kardashians? Well, apparently his opinion of Kimye really hasn’t changed a bit since then, because in a new interview for Kindle Singles, Obama called them both out saying that their wealth isn’t a realistic marker of actual success. He went on to critique the over-the-top lives of West and Kardashian and the effect that they have on young people, explaining, “Kids weren’t monitoring every day what Kim Kardashian was wearing, or where Kanye West was going on vacation, and thinking that somehow that was the mark of success.”
I get that in the old days, fame and wealth used to be pretty good indicators that you were doing pretty well for yourself, but you have to realize that at this point, that’s not really true anymore. Kim Kardashian is only rich because her parents were stupidly wealthy and all she had to do to attain that money was be born, while Kanye’s fame is more closely tied to the fact that he’s an obnoxious lout than it is to his music. Seriously, most kids today who are rich are only so because they hit the genetic lottery, and you get hundreds of thousands of Twitter follows just by being the world’s biggest asshole. That doesn’t mean you’re successful, it just means your were sociopathic enough to do what others are smart and decent enough not to do.
