Salma Hayek – Alexander McQueen
I love that so many actresses are finally embracing McQueen for the red carpet. This has a lot to do with McQueen’s death and the general accessibility that Sarah Burton’s reign as creative director has brought to the brand. Regardless, Salma Hayek (who didn’t do any red carpet press) looks like an absolute goddess. The body-hugging silhouette and dramatic up-do just frame the true star of this gown—the neckpiece. I can’t get enough of this look.

Sally Field – Valentino
It seems that everyone clamors to see what the young stars are wearing on the red carpet but it’s the Hollywood veterans that keep me watching. Everything about Sally Field’s dress is amazing. The ruching on the bodice is beautiful and shapes her perfectly. The ruffles, which transition into the train, are so beautifully dramatic. The color, of course, is a classic Valentino red and works wonderfully with Sally’s skin tone. I’m a sucker for a long-sleeved gown and Sally just got it right.

WORST DRESSED
Anne Hathaway – Prada
I only have one worst dressed this year because, for the most part, the red carpet
was absolutely boring. That being said, Anne Hathaway just needs to pack it in. There was a time when I thought she couldn’t do wrong but as time has gone on, her red carpet choices have left so much to be desired. First of all, the color was extremely reminiscent of that weird dress that Gwyneth Paltrow wore to the Oscars a million years that people still obsess over. It’s not a flattering color at all. It looks like the costume from a ballet recital. Second of all, what is with those weird nipple seams? Her nipples are essentially perpendicular to the rest of her body. How is that anatomically correct? Finally, the back of the dress was a disaster. It was the equivalent of a construction zone for something that hasn’t been announced yet. The top had no idea what the bottom was doing. It was so messy. My eyes are still offended by it.
Furthermore, she needs to decide what’s going on with the hair. She looks like she works at a skate shop. Get a weave or cut it all off again. This transitional phase isn’t working for her.
