RuPaul Drives … with Courtney Stodden!

RuPaul Drives

RuPaul Drives

It’s another episode of World of Wonder‘s series RuPaul Drives, this time with Courtney Stodden, and oh where to begin with her? Maybe it’s just her proximity to RuPaul, but I almost feel like in another life, I could have really liked Courtney. She’s smart (shut up, she is), she’s ballsy, and she’s a little campy. But there’s just something about how she used it all that I can’t get behind. It’s the fact that she has brains and ambition, and then said, “Well, I can hone my talents and create something new and exciting, or I can get a publicity marriage and game the paparazzi for attention … well, let’s see how option #2 plays out!” It’s the idea that millions of girls idolize Marilyn Monroe for her beauty rather than her talent, all while glazing over the fact that she died at the age of 36, face down in a puddle of her own vomit after an overdose of pills. It’s the idea that what you want NOW is more important than your wholeness and progression as a person in the long term. Also, as Willam Belli pointed out in the comments, she’s way too young to have that much breakage in the roots.
