In a recent announcement, award-winning director Steven Spielberg revealed for his latest project he’s slated several top drawer actors for Lincoln. This is to be one of his biggest projects to date, if not his project to end all projects, documenting the stormy presidency of our most controversial leader, Abraham Lincoln. To play this prestigious role, is none other than Daniel Day-Lewis, and to star opposite him as the troubled Mary Todd Lincoln is Sally Field. Both are known as the best of the best and totally dedicated to their craft, so this is a very exciting casting news. Spielberg said this about his first lady, “I’m very excited to be working with Sally for the first time… she has always been my first choice to portray all the fragility and complexity that was Mary Todd Lincoln.” The role is to be challenging, keep in mind Mary was consistently depressed by the dilemmas in her life at that time, dealing with the premature death of two sons and the conflicting sides of the war (though she was a staunch supporter of the Union, her family was from Kentucky, thus she had family fighting family during the civil war). Also her husband’s ridiculously oppressing job of keeping the country together must have been heavy on her shoulders … such a distinguished undertaking promises to turn out a motion picture masterpiece, possibly giving Titanic or even Gone With the Wind a run for its money!
