Tom Cruise should really consider not talking

Tom Cruise

Tom Cruise

Earlier today, we reported on how Tom Cruise‘s lawyers compared Scientology‘s treatment in the media to Jews during World War II. Well, now he’s saying that his job is just as brutal as that of a soldier fighting in Afghanistan. Which kind of begs the question: Does Tom know what a soldier does? Or where Afghanistan is? Or what words mean? TMZ reports …

First, the Middle East — Tom says his location shoots are just like serving a tour in Afghanistan, “That’s what it feels like. And certainly on this last movie, it was brutal. It was brutal.” As for his physical training, Tom said, “There is difficult physical stamina and preparation. Sometimes I’ve spent months, a year, and sometimes two years preparing for a single film.” But the kicker, he adds, “A sprinter for the Olympics, they only have to run two races a day. When I’m shooting, I could potentially have to run 30, 40 races a day, day after day.” But it’s not all grenades and triathlons … Tom says he’s only flown commercial ONCE in the last 4 years … and that was because he had no choice.

Here’s the thing: I don’t think Tom is willfully malicious or bad, so much as he’s been sheltered for most — if not all — of his adult life by his celebrity, and it’s gotten to the point where if he tries to sympathize with the average person, this is what comes out of his mouth. The dude has just been separated from non-famous people for so long that he doesn’t understand how we function.
