Because TBS‘s motto should really be “Where all your favorite critically-acclaimed shows go when they get dropped, and also Tyler Perry“, it sounds like Cougar Town may be moving over to the station that kept Conan and Family Guy alive if ABC decides to give the beloved show the boot For God’s sake, we know it’s a dumb name, but just stick with it! HitFix reports:
The deal being discussed is for TBS to commit to the comedy for a total of two seasons at 15 episodes each, a run that would make the show a more viable candidate for syndication (series are typically considered feasible in their fifth seasons). Indeed, ABC has an obvious stake in the show continuing on, given that they’ll be a recipient of a portion of the profits that result if and when the series is sold on the often-lucrative rerun market.
In all fairness, TBS does get pretty good numbers, even if it is just basic cable. Plus, it’s usually pretty good about airing shows and movies that are, if not masterpieces, still really funny and watchable. So whatever, if ABC decides to dump their only good show, at least it might find a home somewhere else.
