Golden Globes 2013: Best and worst dressed!

BEST DRESSED

#1 Katharine McPhee

It’s obvious Katharine McPhee was only there because NBC is trying really hard to promote the second season of Smash but she made sure we noticed her in a gorgeous black Theyskens’ Theory gown. First of all, it’s so rare to see Theory (let alone Theyskens’ Theory) on a red carpet and to see it pulled off so perfectly is an absolute treat. McPhee’s dress is the perfect combination of sleek with sexy.

#2 Claire Danes

We knew this was going to be Claire Dane’s year. It’s always Claire’s year. She deserves everything. I was obsessed with this simple custom Versace dress. I haven’t seen a Versace dress without an abundance of sequins or obnoxious cutouts since Gianni died. However, I was eight when Gianni died so don’t take my word for this. Anyway, Claire’s dress was just perfection. The color, the cut, the styling—it was all amazing.

#3 Michelle Dockery

I don’t watch Downton Abbey so I have no clue who Michelle Dockery is but, her Alexander Vauthier dress is fantastic. The intricate gold top absolutely popped against the stark white of the rest of her gown. I think out of all of my best-dressed candidates, Michelle’s dress is the one I can’t stop looking at. Perhaps, this is the push I needed to finally start watching Downton Abbey.

WORST DRESSED

#1 Amy Adams

Amy Adams is so gorgeous so imagine our disappointment when she showed up on the red carpet the same color as her dress. The Marchesa gown, which she described as “ballet pink,” was the worst possible choice for color. In fact, it completely took away from the rest of the gown. The most agonizing part of this debacle is that if it was just a few shades darker, we’d be more inclined to love it. Better luck next time.

#2 Lucy Liu

Prints rarely work on the red carpet. This was no exception. I would say that Lucy Liu’s Carolina Herrera dress looked as if it was grown from the Garden of Eden but that would imply there is something heavenly about this gown. The cut was adequate enough and maybe in a solid color, I’d be more inclined to like this gown.

#3 Jessica Chastain

I love Jessica Chastain and usually she gets it so right on the carpet. This year was a striking departure for the actress in a light seafoam green Calvin Klein Collection gown that was so oddly draped across her bust. Actually, blaming the draping is being too kind. The chest is so rumpled and made her breasts look lopsided. The color didn’t do her any favors either. It was just an all around mess.
