Back when Jimmy Fallon was on Saturday Night Live, I remember him getting a ton of flack because the guy had a propensity for breaking. (For those who don’t know, that’s just a ostentatious way of saying “he laughs at his own sketches.”) Ever since he’s moved from sketch comedy to hosting, the guy’s been consistently hitting it out of the park, and my theory goes as such: Jimmy just loves to have fun with the people he’s working with, and he has a flair for spontaneity that doesn’t always lend itself to live sketch. Which is all to say that it makes him a really great host and improviser.
Case in point, here is with Anne Hathaway performing rap songs as Broadway hits, and once again, the guy is clearly right at home riffing and throwing things off the cuff. What can I say? The guy just knows how to work the room in an easy, comfortable setting.
