Louis C.K. hates cell phones

Louis C.K.

In case you haven’t seen this one already, Louis C.K. was on Conan the other night, where he talked about how he’ll never buy his daughters cell phones because they basically just distract us from the endless nothing that is life. Which is admittedly super dark for a show that once featured a segment where they launched Angry Birds at a boombox playing Kim Kardashian‘s song but he does have a point: We’re conditioned to never be negative.

Which sounds great on the surface, until you realize there can’t be a positive without a negative. Rampant positivity feels good, sure, but it doesn’t make you a whole person. You need to feel sad and alone and miserable sometimes because that’s what life is: A mixture of blissful cheer and crushing gloom. A person without negativity to balance out their lives isn’t a whole person so much as they are cheerleaders. Although all of this sentiment is slightly undercut by the number of people who are probably watching this on a phone out of boredom. Anyway, we’ll go back to making fun of stupid a-hole celebrities in a bit, but just remember: it’s okay to be sad and alone sometimes. It won’t kill you.
