Rachel, Finn and Kurt are graduating from ‘Glee’!

In a stunning bombshell that is really only stunning if you haven’t been paying attention to what Ryan Murphy‘s been saying for months now, Lea Michele, Cory Monteith and Chris Colferare all going to be leaving Glee at the end of the next season in order to keep up with the reality of high schoolers not staying in high school until they start going gray and cashing in on their RRSP. Oh, wait, sorry, that’s Canadian. I meant their pensions!

In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Murphy made clear that there would be no prep years or college plot lines. Those stars — Michele, Colfer and Monteith — are “not going to be back at all for Season 4,” he told The Hollywood Reporter. “You can keep them on the show for six years and people will criticize you for not being realistic, or you can be really true to life and say when they started the show they were very clearly sophomores and they should graduate at the end of their senior year.” SOURCE

All right, I’m about to let the Gleek hit the fan here, so consider yourselves warned: The only real problem I have with this is that it opens up a can of arbitrary worms concerning the characters’ ages: Maybe I just assumed they were all the same age because they all took the same classes, but how old are these kids anyway? And technically if Blaine was a year older than Kurt, shouldn’t he graduate and move onto college? And what about Brittany? How long can she keep failing to graduate high school before the joke gets old? Gah …
